Here is a list of the best sites to download free stock footage from. If you have a website or a video project that you need some extra footage for, but are on a tight budget, free stock videos can be the solution you are looking for. If you are playing around in video editors, having some videos to practice on can also be smart. This list is compiled of all the free stock footage sites i could find after some extensive research, that are worth sharing due to the quality of the videos, nice selection of content, and user friendliness designwise. Whenever i stumble upon new sites, i will add them to the list. Pexels: Free community uploaded stock footage
Pexels is a great source for both free pictures and videos. Everything here is uploaded by their community, so you can pick content from thousands of different creators from all around the world, in all kinds of categories. Pexels is one of the largest sites for free footage, with new videos being uploaded every day. Nice and clean interface with the option to download the files in different formats, depending on your needs. You don’t need to register to download pictures and videos, simply click and download, no attribution is required either here

Pixabay: More free community uploaded footage
Pixabay is another content-packed source for both pictures and videos, it’s quite like Pexels in every way, which is a great thing. Nice clean design and no hassle when it comes to downloading. Simply click the download button, choose what format you want, and the download starts instantly. On the front pages, video quality and length is displayed under the thumb, which is nice as it makes it easy to see what is 4K and not. The content on this site is also provided by creators from around the world, with no attributions required

Videezy: Mostly free HD and 4K stock videos
Another community uploads site for free stock videos is Videezy. This site is not as good as the Pixabay and Pexels, you are also required to give attribution on the footage you use from this site. Not everything is free here either, there are mixed in some pro footage that you have to pay for. On the search pages you can set it to filter by quality, so you can choose to display only 4K, if that is what you are looking for. Downloading from Videezy is easy, simply click the download button, and your file starts downloading after a 5 seconds delay

Videvo: Free stock footage, music and sounds
Videvo has thousands of free 4K videos that you can grab without having to register for an account, however you must give attribution to the uploader of the content on most videos. You can use the license filter and choose royalty-free thou, which gives you a nice selection of videos that you don’t have to give attribution on, but that reduces the selection quite a lot. There is a lot of great content in all kinds of categories on this site, so if you don’t mind giving attribution, you probably could find some decent stock videos to work with here

Coverr: Free stock videos made for website covers
Coverr contains lots of nice free stock footage that is mainly meant for website covers, but you can use it for whatever you want, for both commercial and noncommercial purposes. You do not need to give attribution either, but of course anybody who offers free stock footage appriciate it. Since these stock videos are meant for website covers, they are only in 1920 x 1280 resolution with low bitrate, but the quality is quite nice thou. If you are looking for some background footage that looks great on phones, check out what Coverr got for you

Mixkit: Download free 1920 x 1080 stock videos
Mixkit contains a mix of stock footage, music, and templates for Premiere Pro. You do not need to register for an account to download any of the content on this site, you are not required to give attribution in order to use it either. The videos here are all in 1920 x 1080 resolution, so if you are looking for 4K videos, you can skip this site. Otherwise, Mixkit got quite a nice collection of videos in many categories. The site itself got a clean design without any sneaky ads for premium content. Downloads are done with a single click on your mouse

Nature Stock Videos: Free 4K nature stock footage
Nature Stock Videos is one of my hiking related hobby projects. Here you can download 4K videos that i have taken on my hikes, in a mix of ground and aerial footage. You do not need to register an account or give any attribution, you are free to do whatever you want with these videos. They are left unedited so that you can fix them up with whatever color corrections you see fit. One-click downloads from fast MediaFire servers. These videos are quite large in size, the packs can be several gigabytes each. Check it out if you need nature videos

Extra: Public Domain historical footage collection
The Public Domain Project from Pond5 contains footage, pictures, and audio files that you can download and use any way you want, no attribution or anything required. The footage section contains 1000 historical clips of mostly protesting, military stuff, and a bunch of astronaut related videos. So should you for some reason need any old footage in these categories, you can take a look at The Public Domain Project. You need to get yourself an account with Pond5 in order to add the items to the cart and check out, but they are all priced to 0

These sites are are not as good as the ones above thou, with less content and sporadic updates, if they still update at all. But who knows, maybe you will find a gem or 2 amongst the junk
